Junior B Hurling Championship Round Robin
Dungourney vs Cloyne Friday July 12th 2019 7.30

This years junior B Hurling Championship is being played on a round robin basis there will be three teams per group each team gets two matches ,the top two teams in each group will qualify for the quarter finals.

We had a great turn out of marshals for last weeks IRONMAN competition despite the inclement weather ,many thanks to everybody who helped out on the day we had forty people helping ......an amazing turn out on a truly awful day.
A word for the competitors though what an incredible group of people ,each and everyone who took part were truly IRONMEN and IRONWOMEN ,a special mention for our own Mark Cullen who did himself proud with a great display in completing the course in a great time ,congratulations.

A great crowd attended our inaugural “Family Fun day” on Sunday last, this was all about giving something back to the supporters who follow our teams through thick and thin and I think it was enjoyed by all and sundry.
There were many attractions organized and marshaled by the players for the children such as “beat the goalie”, “scoring wall”  and many others .Of course the bouncy castle was a big hit as well as the ice cream van and with crisps and minerals etc for the kids and a cup of tea and a cake for the adults who could beat it???
The pitch and it’s surroundings were a credit to all who help out and of course we got to show off our new gym and meeting rooms it’s great for people to see how good our facilities are and we appreciate all the financial help that the community gives us.
The highlight for many though was a fun match between the current team and a team of Dungourney “veterans” this promised to be an exciting encounter and so it transpired.
I’m not sure if the current team ever got out of first gear but the veterans put up a great display aided I must say by a very biased referee!!! It was great to roll back the years and see lads who gave us so much pleasure over the years take to the pitch again and give a great display though I must say that some of them are filling the jerseys a bit better than they did previously!!
In the match itself Aidan Rigney took the plaudits for man of the match with 2-04 from play and the veterans ran out controversial winners as Mike McGraths goal was ruled out by referee Peter Cody because it hadn’t crossed the line before the whistle was blown .....as I say biased!!
The teams got a great Cheer at the final whistle from the big crowd in the stand and they deserved it although it’s lucky that Monday was a bank holiday as I’d say there was a lot of sore limbs about and fellas stuck in baths with Epsom salts on the Monday.
Veterans ,Aidan Flynn Conor Casey,Aidan Kelleher,Ritchie O Neill,John Ronayne,P J Cooney,Brian Ronayne,Eric Kenneally,Kevin Kelleher,Aidan Rigney,Kenneth Kelleher,Martin Wall,Alan Kelleher,Timmy O Sullivan,Will Daly,Paul O Reilly,Finbar O Connell,

Youth Team,Dave Hennessy,Darragh Ahern,Shane Hegarty,Kevin Rohan,Mike Leahy,Sean Hegarty,James McCarthy,Mike McGrath Karl Kiely,Bill Ahern,Kieran Aherne,Brian Aherne,Colm Griffin Stephen Hickey James Leahy Ryan Denny.

Many thanks must go to all who organized and helped out on the day especially Bill Ahern who put a lot of work into the day.We would like to thank everybody who brought cakes and sandwiches and also the ladies in the kitchen who worked tirelessly all evening.
We are looking forward to next years event already thanks again for coming.

As reported before the IRON MAN competition will take place on Sunday June 23rd ,the cycle part will be passing through Dungourney and the road from Midleton to Morleys cross will be closed from approx 8-30 until 4-30.
The roads from Aherns farm in Ballinacole to Smiddys cross in Donickmore will need to be stewarded and the GAA club have been asked to supply stewards for each cross. We have made a list of GAA club members who live close to each cross and we will be contacting people to give a few hours of their day to steward for the event. The GAA club will get a small amount for each steward who helps on the day so it is a handy fundraiser for us.
